Summer Associate Program
The summer program provides an encompassing look at what it means to be a Murtha attorney. It provides interns with the opportunity to work with many different attorneys in as many practice areas as possible. And it affords the interns a glimpse of what we mean when we say “Murtha Means More.”
During their summer tenure, interns are given meaningful research and writing assignments and are involved in the day-to-day legal work of mentoring attorneys. As frequently as we can, we arrange for summer interns to observe and participate in "outside" events such as trials, depositions, hearings, negotiations and closings.
Summer interns meet often to discuss problems, offer suggestions and learn more about our practice. Attorneys within the firm meet with the group to describe the work of the various practice groups and departments. Supervising attorneys regularly evaluate the work and discuss projects with each intern. In addition, each summer intern receives an individual review conducted by the firm.
While we expect our summer interns to work hard and demonstrate their abilities, we also want to get to know them as people, and vice versa. We plan many social activities with members of the firm, including ball games, dinner parties, and after-work cocktail hours.
The summer program is the cornerstone of our permanent recruitment effort. It affords the firm an in depth assessment of an intern’s skills and potential. Because of this, Murtha invests many resources into the program, and we’re certain our interns come away with an excellent sense of what a career at Murtha Cullina would mean to them. In the words of a few of our recent summer interns:
“The summer program at Murtha Cullina was a great opportunity to work on challenging projects with quality people. In general, I found my assignments to be both important and useful. My first completed project, for example, made its way into an oral argument of a post-trial brief in Superior Court. I rarely worked with the same attorney twice. This provided exposure to a wide range of practice areas and lawyering styles. There were also opportunities to shadow attorneys and attend events like hearings and client meetings.”
