HARTFORD, CT (September 22, 2014)…Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Malloy has appointed Murtha Cullina LLP attorney Francis J. Brady as a Commissioner on the State’s Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Commission.
The mission of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Commission is to enforce the public disclosure provisions of the FOIA. The FOI Commission hears complaints about denied access to public records and determines if a public agency’s actions are in conformance with the disclosure requirements of the FOIA.
“I am very pleased to have been appointed to this vital Commission in our State. I look forward to continuing its hard work in promoting an open government policy that is consistent with the mission of the Freedom of Information Act,” said Mr. Brady.
Mr. Brady, who joined Murtha Cullina in 1974, has a broad base of business litigation experience. Since 2006, he has been selected for inclusion in Best Lawyers in America® for several categories and, in its 2014 edition, was listed as Hartford ‘Lawyer of the Year’ for Insurance Law.
Mr. Brady was the 2014 recipient of the Hartford County Bar Association (HCBA) President’s Award for Excellence. In 2013, he received the Connecticut Bar Association (CBA) Edward F. Hennessey Award for Professionalism.
Mr. Brady was formerly the President of both the HCBA and the CBA. He has also been actively involved in several community and professional organizations, including as a member of the Board of Directors of the Greater Hartford Legal Aid Society, as a member of the Granby Board of Finance, as past Chairman of the CBA’s Pro Bono Committee and as past Mayor of the Town of Windsor.
