Lauren R. MacLellan


As an associate in the Litigation Department, Ms. MacLellan (née Holland) practices in the areas of Construction Law, Labor and Employment, and Healthcare. She also handles general business and commercial litigation cases, including insurance coverage disputes.

In her employment practice, Ms. MacLellan counsels and represents employers with respect to employment discrimination, sexual harassment, leaves of absence and disability management, personnel policies, and wage and hour issues, along with a variety of other labor and employment issues. In her construction practice, she represents general contractors, subcontractors and condominium associations in connection with construction disputes, defective work, mechanic's liens, and Chapter 93A violations. Ms. MacLellan's healthcare practice focuses on risk management, helping providers to maximize their reimbursement from insurers and counseling hospitals on insurance coverage issues. She has extensive experience with e-discovery management, from litigation holds to preservation, collection and production, and with Massachusetts, Connecticut and state and federal information security regulations. 

Ms. MacLellan participates in one of the largest pro bono programs for the Women's Bar Foundation, Family Law Project for Battered Women and in the Women's Bar Foundation Mentoring Circle program. She is also a member of the National Association of Women in Construction. For the past three years, Ms. MacLellan has led a team from Murtha Cullina in an annual fundraising walk for the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Representative Matters

  • Represented a restaurant chain through summary judgment and trial; the jury returned a verdict for the defense

  • Successfully represented two condominium associations in defective work cases

  • Represented general contractor in connection with mechanic's lien action against owner for nonpayment and managed over ten subcontractor lawsuits arising from that nonpayment

  • Regularly obtains dismissals of MCAD charges against large employers and successfully defends such dismissals through the MCAD appeal
