HIPAA Breach Costs Insurer $1.5 Million

Security lapses and a major breach have cost Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee (BCBST) $1.5 million in settlement with the Office for Civil Rights (OCR).  OCR enforces the HIPAA Security Rule, which requires covered entities to use physical, technical and administrative safeguards to ensure that electronic protected health information remains private and secure.
