Murtha Cullina Partner Maria Pepe VanDerLaan Authors Book Chapter: Reimbursement Challenges for Healthcare Providers

July 17, 2012

HARTFORD, CT (July 17, 2012)… Murtha Cullina Partner Maria Pepe VanDerLaan recently authored a chapter of the book Inside the Minds, Representing Policyholders in Insurance Cases, Leading Lawyers on Educating Clients About Insurance Contracts and Navigating Different Types of Disputes.

Attorney VanDerLaan’s chapter, entitled “Managed Care and Reimbursement Claims: Protecting Providers from a Code Blue,” focuses on challenges surrounding the managed care relationship, and also discusses related disputes and what providers need to know in order to protect their interests.

“Authoring this chapter has served as a great opportunity to shine a light on the managed care system and the evolving challenges that providers face when it comes to protecting the bottom line,” stated Attorney VanDerLaan. “Both providers and attorneys alike need to be well versed and informed on how managed care contracts are written, and this chapter works to explain that, while also establishing best practices for attorneys representing providers in the reimbursement area.”

The book, which is authored by multiple C-level executives and attorneys, provides readers with insight on insurance issues policyholders will likely encounter with insurance company partners. These authors offer their thoughts on purchasing insurance, analyzing policies, dealing with coverage disputes, and understanding if bad faith has occurred.
