Casella has been chosen by the Connecticut Legislature’s Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee to serve on the State Tax Panel. The panel, created for the purpose of reviewing the overall state and local tax structure, is comprised of experts in tax law, tax policy, accounting, economics and business finance. The goal of the 15-member panel is to modernize the State’s tax policy, structure and administration. The panel is also charged with increasing Connecticut’s tax system’s simplicity, fairness, economic competiveness and affordability. The panel must report results and recommendations back to the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee by January 1, 2016. Mr. Casella is a Partner at Murtha Cullina. His practice includes estate administration, probate litigation and sophisticated estate planning. His practice also includes serving as a fiduciary, whether as executor, trustee or conservator, as well as serving as counsel for conservatorships. Mr. Casella is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association’s Tax Section and is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association’s Executive Committee of the Estate & Probate Section. He is a member of the Hartford Estate and Business Planning Council, serves on the Executive Committee of the Central Connecticut Estate and Business Planning Council and he is Chair of the Greater Hartford Probate Forum. Mr. Casella earned his J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law, his LL.M in taxation from the New York University School of Law, and is admitted to practice in Connecticut, Massachusetts, the U.S. Tax Court and the U.S. District Court, District of Massachusetts.
