Stamford, CT (May 14, 2015)…On May 1, 2015, Murtha Cullina LLP attorney Kristen L. Zaehringer participated in a Mock Trial student program held by the U.S. District Court’s Public Outreach Committee.
To prepare for the trial, Ms. Zaehringer and another local attorney coached tenth graders from the Fairchild Wheeler Magnet School in Bridgeport. U.S. District Court Judge Victor A. Bolden presided over the trial along with a student judge. The case the students worked on involved a Fourth Amendment civil rights claim which alleged that a police officer used excessive force as he made an arrest in a tense situation.
Mock trials helps students understand the judicial process by playing the role of attorneys, jurors and other court personnel. The primary goal of the District Court’s Public Outreach Committee is to educate young people about the important role that courts, judges and lawyers play in preserving the rule of law.
Ms. Zaehringer is a member of Murtha Cullina’s Litigation Department, as well as its Labor and Employment Practice Group. She received her Bachelor’s degree from George Washington University and her J.D. from Quinnipiac University School of Law.
