Murtha Cullina LLP has added seven attorneys to strengthen the Firm’s core practice areas and provide a greater array of services to the Firm’s clients. 

Partners and Counsel

Bruce L. McDermott has joined the Firm as a Partner in the Regulatory Department.  He will be a member of the Energy, Water and Environmental Practice Groups. 

Mr. McDermott’s practice includes energy, public utility, environmental and infrastructure law including litigation, transactional and regulatory representation and counseling. He also advises clients on renewable energy project development, as well as energy and environmental issues in corporate transactions.  In addition, Mr. McDermott assists with infrastructure siting for electric generation plants, substations and telecommunications facilities.

Mr. McDermott received his LL.M in Environmental Law from Pace University School of Law, his J.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Law and his Bachelor’s degree from Lafayette College.   

Ryan M. Suerth has joined the Firm as a Partner in the Litigation Department.  He is an Insurance Recovery litigation attorney who represents large business policyholders, including real estate developers and general contractors, in coverage and other insurance-related matters. 

Mr. Suerth has litigated multi-million dollar insurance claims and has represented clients in disputes in over ten states.  He is admitted to practice in Connecticut, New York, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the U.S. District Courts of Connecticut, the Southern District of New York, and the Eastern District of New York. 

“Ryan will be a substantial addition to our Insurance Recovery Practice Group, and his extensive experience will help us continue our longstanding tradition of enforcing coverage rights for policyholders,” said Elizabeth J. Stewart of Murtha Cullina’s Insurance Recovery Practice Group. 

Mr. Suerth received his J.D. from Southwestern Law School, his M.B.A. from the University of Connecticut School of Business and his Bachelor’s degree from Pepperdine University.

Proloy K. Das has joined the Firm as Counsel and will Chair the Firm’s Appellate Practice Group.

Mr. Das is one of Connecticut’s leading appellate lawyers.  He has argued over fifty appeals in the Connecticut Appellate and Supreme Courts and has authored numerous articles on developing trends in the law. He is admitted to practice in Connecticut, the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

Mr. Das received his J.D. from Indiana University School of Law and his Bachelor’s degree from Boston College.   


Murtha Cullina also welcomes four new Associates to the Firm:  Emily G. Brown (Employee Benefits in Boston), Sarah M. Gruber (Litigation in Hartford), Daniel J. Kagan (Health Care in New Haven) and Spencer A. Stone (Real Estate in Hartford).
