NEW HAVEN, CT (February 1, 2016)…Dena M. Castricone is the recipient of the 2016 Roger Williams University School of Law (RWU Law) Champions for Justice Award.
Each year RWU Law honors an outstanding individual, alumnus and local organization that are bettering the community through their work and presence. Ms. Castricone received the “Alumni Public Interest Champion” award for her efforts in the LGBT community.
In 2000, as a student at RWU Law, Ms. Castricone founded The Alliance, the law school’s LGBT group. It has since become one of RWU Law’s most active student groups. In 2007, she founded the Connecticut Alliance for Business Opportunities (CABO), Connecticut’s premiere LGBT and allied Chamber of Commerce, which has won national awards including National LGBT Chamber of the Year in 2011. Currently, Ms. Castricone is the President of the CABO Foundation, which grants scholarships to LGBT and allied students who are catalysts for positive change and inspire others to create a more compassionate and inclusive community.
Ms. Castricone is an attorney in the Long Term Care and Health Care practice groups at Murtha Cullina. She represents nursing homes, assisted living communities, hospitals and home health care agencies in a wide range of regulatory, compliance, litigation and risk management issues. Ms. Castricone is on the steering committee of the Health Care Council of the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Executive Committee of the LGBT Section of the Connecticut Bar Association.
RWU celebrated its Champions for Justice Awards on January 29, 2016 at the Omni Biltmore in Providence, Rhode Island.
