Murtha Cullina LLP is proud to announce that, for the second year in a row, its Appellate Practice Group has received a “Litigation Department of the Year Award” from the Connecticut Law Tribune.  The award recognized appellate successes achieved for several firm clients.

In 2017, the Appellate Group continued to help shape the law in several appellate matters of importance to the Connecticut business community. Appeals argued by Murtha Cullina lawyers encompassed many different areas of the law including, affordable housing and community development, arbitration, banking, construction and land use, insurance recovery, labor and employment, municipal, probate, and bankruptcy.   In addition, the group filed amicus curiae briefs on behalf of organizations representing the interests of firm clients including the Connecticut Business & Industry Association and the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities.

2017 was a special year for the Appellate Group, as it also marked two anniversary dates of U.S. Supreme Court cases involving Murtha Cullina attorneys – the 30-year anniversary of Fort Halifax Packing v. Coyne, 482 U.S. 1 (1987) and the 10-year anniversary of Marrama v. Citizens Bank of Massachusetts, 549 U.S. 365 (2007).

The Appellate Group consists of some of the Firm’s most experienced litigators. The nearly 20 active attorneys in the group include the Chairs of the Firm’s product liability, construction, insurance recovery, bankruptcy and creditors’ rights, municipal, and complex litigation practice groups. Members of the Appellate Group have litigated numerous appeals in the state and federal appeals courts at all levels in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York.  Connecticut based members of the Appellate Group include:
