NEW HAVEN, CT (June 14, 2018)…Murtha Cullina LLP is pleased to announce that experienced patent litigation attorney Richard J. Basile has joined the firm as a partner in its Stamford, CT office and patent attorney Timothy S. Cieslak has joined as an associate its Hartford, CT office. 

“We are excited to add someone of Rich Basile’s caliber to our IP practice.  He has successfully litigated many patent cases in a variety of forums, including a lengthy list of Federal courts, before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, and at the International Trade Commission,” said Anthony P. Gangemi, Chair Murtha Cullina’s IP Practice Group and managing partner of its New Haven office.  “The addition of Tim Cieslak adds to our patent prosecution depth.  Tim’s work as a project engineer for Hamilton Sundstrand Corporation before attending law school has and will continue to serve him well in his ability to communicate effectively with inventors while providing exceptional services to our clients.”    

About Richard J. Basile

While Mr. Basile represents clients in all areas of intellectual property law, the focus of his practice is patent litigation and patent prosecution. He has extensive first-chair patent litigation experience with an emphasis on counseling and representing generic drug companies in Hatch-Waxman proceedings.  He has successfully represented generic drug companies at both the trial and appellate levels and has been involved in preparing numerous patent opinions and Paragraph IV notice letters.  He has litigated patent cases in a variety of technical fields in district courts throughout the United States, before the USPTO in post grant proceedings, and at the International Trade Commission.  In addition to pharmaceuticals, Mr. Basile has experience in other technical fields, including ultrasonic water meters, GPS business and method patents, medical imaging devices, radiation based paper making sensors, computer cooling fans, heavy vehicle braking systems, bicycle suspension systems, and fiber optic amplifiers and multiplexers.

Mr. Basile received his J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law, Illinois Institute for Technology and his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Union College.  He is a member of the American, Connecticut and New York Intellectual Property Law Associations, the Federal Circuit Bar Association and the National Italian American Bar Association.  He is also a member of the Judge Janet Bond Arterton American Inn of Court. 

About Timothy S. Cieslak

Mr. Cieslak primarily prepares and prosecutes patent applications.  His mechanical engineering background allows him to work with clients in a variety of industries and technology areas.  . Mr. Cieslak is also experienced in conducting IP-related legal research for clients in the U.S. and abroad while counseling them on the development and management of their IP portfolios and in some cases while supporting patent litigation efforts related to those portfolios.

Mr. Cieslak received his J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law and his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Boston University.  He is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association and is a member of the Judge Janet Bond Arterton American Inn of Court.
