Hartford, CT (October 14, 2020)…Murtha Cullina LLP Partner Edward B. Spinella has been elected to the Executive Committee of Murtha Cullina LLP – the Firm’s governing body.

Mr. Spinella, resident in the Firm’s Hartford office, is a member of the Business and Finance Department.  He is the Chair of the Tax-Exempt Organizations Practice Group and the Co-Chair of the Education Practice Group. 

Mr. Spinella serves as outside general counsel to a diverse array of tax-exempt organizations located throughout the country including social service providers, other healthcare organizations, public charities, private foundations, social clubs and trade associations. He regularly advises his clients regarding mergers, affiliations, joint ventures and other collaborations as well as how to strategically unlock new revenue streams via the exploration of social enterprises. Mr. Spinella has thoroughly familiarized himself with the tax-exempt sector by working with executives, volunteer fiduciaries and advisors as well as by serving on the boards of directors of various tax-exempt organizations, currently including Harc, Inc. and Connecticut Explored, Inc. 

Mr Spinella is an active member of the Connecticut Bar Association Working Group developing amendments to the Connecticut Model Entity Transactions Act regarding the inclusion of nonstock corporations.  He received his B.A. from the College of Holy Cross summa cum laude and his J.D. from the University of Connecticut Law School with honors.  He was also recently named a recipient of the “40 Under Forty” Award from the Hartford Business Journal. 

Mr. Spinella joins fellow Murtha Cullina Partners Jennifer Morgan DelMonico (Chair), Heather O. Berchem, Thomas S. Vangel and Keith S. Varian on the Executive Committee.
