Sal Gangemi Quoted in Law360 Article on Implications of Workplace Music Policies on Employers

November 2, 2022

Labor & Employment partner Sal Gangemi was quoted in a Law360 article on the potential implications for employers resulting from two ongoing employment discrimination battles that center on music with crude lyrics.

Sal’s advice to employers is to “limit people's ability to listen to music where others can hear. We already know that you can't view offensive pictures or videos at work, but there are few policies on sound or audio, and I think we need to treat those just like we would regulate or monitor videos in the workplace."

Sal noted that friction between workers over music may come up more frequently these days, as employers may be relaxing workplace standards in order to attract new hires, noting “In the past we never thought we had to say anything about music, but now it's something that we do need to consider.”
