The New Due Diligence: PCBs in Building Materials

Recent headlines in Connecticut regarding the discovery of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in caulking at technical high sc hools highlight the emerging concern over the presence of PCBs in building materials.  PCBs also have recently made the news ino ther northeastern states, including New York and Massachusetts, where they have been found in high concentrations in caulking in schools and other buildings.  These discoveries raise more questions than they answer.  Should schools and other buildings be tested for PCBs?  What risks do these PCBs present to human health and environment?  What should be done about PCB contamination that is discovered?
