Imminent Changes to Massachusetts CORI Laws

Legislation signed by Governor Deval Patrick on August 6, 2010 revamped Massachusetts' Criminal Offender Record Information ("CORI") law. While most of the changes do not take effect until 2012, beginning on November 4, 2010 employers are no longer permitted to ask applicants about any criminal record information on an initial application form.
Connecticut, New Hampshire and Rhode Island also place some restrictions on criminal inquiries, which are also summarized here.
