Andrew P. Barsom

Andrew Barsom is Counsel in Murtha Cullina LLP’s Litigation Department where his practice is focused primarily within the Bankruptcy & Creditor’s Rights, Long Term Care and Retail & Hospitality practice groups.  Andrew's main responsibility within each of these practice groups is focused on the collection of debts on behalf of clients of the Firm whether derived from contractual rights; leasehold obligations; for services provided or any combination of the above.  Andrew routinely appears in Courts across the state of Connecticut to advocate on behalf of the Firm’s clients in foreclosure actions; breach of contract actions, prejudgment remedy applications and summary process (eviction) actions.

The breadth of Andrew's practice areas provide him with an understanding and knowledge of the substantive areas of law related to debt collection which, in turn, permits him to effectively advise clients and prosecute litigation when necessary to collect the debts due to the Firm’s clients.  However, it is a well-known fact that, at Murtha Cullina LLP, a relationship with any particular client is never a singular undertaking as the Firm’s structure and its other attorneys provide the flexibility to draw upon other departments and practice groups to fashion resolutions for debt collection referrals where litigation may not be the best or most cost effective method of achieving the client’s goal of being made whole.  The hybrid approach that Andrew and Murtha Cullina employ to mapping out the most effective method of recovery of the debt on behalf of the client using both litigation and, when appropriate, a more creative resolution, such as a structured payment plan or stipulated judgment, is commonly employed.  The results of this method of debt collection have resulted in many successful recoveries at a relatively minimal expense to the Firm’s respective clients during the tenure of Andrew's practice at Murtha Cullina LLP.

Although the main focus of Andrew's practice is the prosecution of debt collection actions on behalf of the Firm’s clients from the plaintiff’s perspective, there are also many occasions in which he will undertake the defense of such actions on behalf of the Firm’s clients.  This ability to “play both sides of the field” provides additional opportunity for insight into the motives and methods which are most effective in pursuit of both types of representation to maximize the benefit to the Firm’s clients no matter what the particular client’s ultimate goal may be.
