Burt Cohen
Burt Cohen has practiced law for 32 years in the areas of communications, regulatory and administrative law and related federal and state court litigation. He is a member of the Information Security and Privacy and Communications Law practice groups of Murtha Cullina.
Burt has wide-ranging experience representing clients before State agencies and in court. He is viewed by his clients as a trusted advisor and effective advocate on complex and cutting edge issues involving cable, broadband and telecommunications providers and other regulated industries. Burt has an extensive track record in administrative hearings and appeals, with an established reputation for working with State regulators and public officials to achieve his clients’ goals.
With an active State tax litigation practice, Burt represents significant taxpayers on corporate business tax, sales and use tax, and other Connecticut tax issues in audits and appeals, as well as in seeking claims for tax refunds, before the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services.
Burt serves on the Executive Committee of the Connecticut Bar Association (CBA) Energy, Public Utility & Communications Law Section. He is on the CBA Board of Governors and House of Delegates and serves as Chair of the CBA’s Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee.
Burt is also an active participant in diversity initiatives for the Connecticut legal profession. He is the President of the Lawyers Collaborative for Diversity and he serves on the Diversity and Inclusion Committee of the CBA, a group charged with implementing the Diversity and Inclusion Policy of the CBA. Currently Burt Chairs the Diversity and Inclusion Committee of Murtha Cullina. He is also the former Chair of the Friends of New Haven Legal Assistance and a recipient of its 2012 Equal Access to Justice Award.
He earned his B.A. from Trinity College, and his J.D. summa cum laude from Western New England School of Law.
