Jennifer M. DelMonico


Jennifer DelMonico is the Managing Partner of Murtha Cullina LLP. She has been a trial lawyer for parties in complex commercial litigation disputes and defendants in tort and product liability actions for nearly 20 years. She primarily represents clients in the manufacturing, technology, and health care industries.

Jennifer has tried several cases to verdict to judges and juries in state and federal court. Her trials have involved a variety of claims, including those for product liability, negligence, breach of warranty, breach of contract, and violations of the Connecticut Uniform Trade Secrets Act (CUTSA) and the Connecticut Unfair Trade Practices Act (CUTPA). Some highlights include:

  • Trial counsel in eight week jury trial involving claims for violations CUTSA and CUTPA, breach of contract, and spoliation of evidence (Connecticut Superior Court, J.D. of Waterbury; jury trial to verdict)
  • Trial counsel in successful defense of claims and prosecution of counterclaims in a complex breach of contract case arising from the water system installed at a large residential property development (Connecticut Superior Court, J.D. of Middlesex; bench trial to verdict)
  • Trial counsel for gas supplier’s successful defense of an action for serious personal injury following a natural gas explosion (Connecticut Superior Court, J.D. of New Britain; jury trial to verdict)
  • Trial counsel for public company’s successful defense of minority shareholder challenge to the company’s recapitalization; involved matter of first impression under Connecticut corporate law (D. Conn.; bench trial to verdict)
  • Trial counsel for plaintiff nursing home’s successful suit against former resident’s conservator for breach of the probate bond securing his faithful performance of fiduciary duties; involved matter of first impression under Connecticut health care law (Connecticut Superior Court, J.D. of Fairfield at Stamford; jury trial to verdict; affirmed on appeal)
  • Counsel for prime contractor in multiple lawsuits arising from the State of Connecticut’s upgrade of a complex, multi-million dollar computer system (settlement)

Jennifer also counsels clients on security breach and electronic data compliance issues.  

Jennifer received a Bachelor of Music degree in Oboe Performance from Northwestern University in 1994, and graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1997. From 1997 to 2000, Jennifer was an attorney in the Product Liability department at King & Spalding in her hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. Before becoming Managing Partner of Murtha Cullina, she served as Chair of the Firm’s Litigation Department and Managing Partner of the Firm’s New Haven, Connecticut office.

Jennifer is Chair of the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce and serves on the Executive Committee of the Connecticut Business and Industry Association and the New Haven Symphony Orchestra.  She is the Immediate Past Chair of Easter Seals Goodwill Industries and the former Chair of the Cultural Affairs Commission for the City of New Haven.

Jennifer is a James W. Cooper Fellow of the Connecticut Bar Foundation, serves on the Executive Committee of the CBA Federal Practice Section, and is a member of the New Haven Inn of Court. She is the former Secretary/Treasurer of the Foundation of the New Haven County Bar.

Jennifer has received numerous honors and awards, including the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce Alumnus of the Leadership Center Award, the DuPont Minority Counsel Network Diversity Sponsorship Recognition Award, and the MS Corporate Achiever Award. She also has received the Women in Business Award from the Hartford Business Journal, the Women in the Law High Achievers Award from the Connecticut Law Tribune and the Forty Under 40 Award from the New Haven Business Times.
