Maury E. Lederman
In his practice of construction law and litigation, Maury Lederman represents public and private owners, general and subcontractors, materials’ suppliers and design professionals. Matters he handles include disputes involving breach of contract, negligence, warranty, defective work, disruption, delay, mechanic’s liens, rights and obligations under performance, payment and lien bonds and Chapter 93A violations.
Maury is skilled in assessing and evaluating construction claims and is proficient in analyzing, drafting and negotiating construction contracts on behalf of owners, contractors, subcontractors, materials’ suppliers and design professionals.
Maury recently settled a multi-million dollar dispute between his client, a materials supplier, and a general contractor. Through careful analysis of the contractor’s delay claim, Maury determined that essential documents were missing, there was no proof that the supplier delayed the project, and the contractor’s theory supporting the delay claim was one that is disfavored by courts in all 50 states. The contractor ultimately dropped its delay claim and paid the supplier 70% of its contract balance.
Admitted to practice in Massachusetts, Maury regularly appears before the Massachusetts State and Federal Courts and the American Arbitration Association. He also serves as an arbitrator and as a mediator and represents clients in mediations and public bid protests. He lectures and prepares written material on construction law issues for Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, Inc., the American Bar Association’s Public Law Section and Lorman Educational Services. He regularly conducts seminars for clients to assist them in addressing business related issues and goals.
