Mitchell J. Mehlman


Mitch Mehlman, Of Counsel, is a member of the Intellectual Property (IP) Practice Group. 

Mitch prepares and prosecutes patent applications in a variety of technology areas including chemical, pharmaceutical, microelectronics packaging, and mechanical. He prepares patentability, infringement, and patent validity studies.  Mitch also assists the firm's litigators in IP litigation and generally assists clients across all areas of intellectual property law.

Prior to joining Murtha Cullina, Mitch worked for ten years in private law firms where he prepared and prosecuted numerous patent applications in a wide array of technology areas and for clients of all sizes.  In addition, Mitch also counseled clients in other areas of IP law, e.g., trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.

Before attending law school, Mitch worked for over twenty years as an engineer and engineering manager.  Over that time, he gained research and development experience in materials engineering, failure analysis, composite manufacturing, and polymer analysis. In addition, Mitch worked for over ten years in advanced materials and process engineering, intellectual property management, and spacecraft manufacturing with a private aerospace company.  

Mitch is the author of numerous technical papers and a co-inventor on U.S. Patent No. 6,261,716, Battery cell sleeve for spacecraft applications.  He served as the President of the Northern California Chapter of the Society for the Advancement of Materials and Process Engineering (SAMPE).

In his spare time, Mitch enjoys golf, travel, and playing the clarinet.
