The Information Age has created powerful new tools for collecting and managing information in both electronic and paper form, which in turn has given rise to new risks and obligations. Murtha Cullina's Information Security and Privacy Group consists of a multi-disciplinary group of attorneys with experience guiding clients through the complex legal and practical challenges they face in this rapidly changing area.

The Group's attorneys work closely with clients to protect and preserve their confidential data and respond to breaches of that data. Our services include:

  • Creating Written Information Security Plans ("WISPs");
  • Drafting policies and counseling businesses with industry-specific data protection requirements, including HIPAA, HITECH, Red Flag Rules and Gramm Leach Bliley;
  • Evaluating and responding to information breaches at the national, regional and local levels;
  • Developing and administering guidelines for e-discovery and document retention policies;
  • Reviewing and evaluating existing information security policies for compliance with applicable requirements; and
  • Coordinating with outside service providers and experts where needed.
