Hospitals and healthcare providers have been at the forefront of a movement to challenge the construction industry to deliver projects more efficiently and more timely while providing added value. In the United States, Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), which seeks to align the interests, objectives and practices between the owner, architect and construction manager of a construction project, got its roots in the healthcare industry. In this presentation we will explore what IPD is and whether it is right for your audience’s next project. We will also discuss ways to make a project so-called “IPD Lite” by incorporating and encouraging some IPD principles – collaboration, innovation and transparency – short of entering into the multi-party agreement that is fundamental to a “pure” IPD project. Finally, we will introduce some cutting edge innovations, not limited to IPD projects, which are enabling contractors to provide hospitals with a better product, including Building Information Modeling (BIM), prefabrication and Project Dashboard technology.
