Nick Vitti presented "Real Property Tax Primer & the State Property Tax Exemption: Will It Survive?", he discussed the real estate property tax system and its appeal process in Connecticut including its interplay with the State Property Tax Exemption. Connecticut’s tax-exempt organizations continue to face challenges from all levels of government (Federal, State and Local). Some of the most common state property tax exemption statutes utilized by tax-exempt organizations in Connecticut are currently under attack in the legislature. Nick walked through the exemption statutes and outlined the relevant legal landscape relating to preserving and protecting the underlying basis for property tax exemption if challenged by an assessor. Nick closed his presentation by touching on some practical tips, common pitfalls and creative solutions for dealing with real estate property taxes.
