Taruna Garg
Taruna Garg is a solutions-focused and practical commercial litigation attorney practicing in the areas of business litigation, bankruptcy, and creditors’ rights in New York, Connecticut and Massachusetts.
In her bankruptcy practice, Taruna has a wide range of experience representing business debtors (and their directors, officers and employees), secured and unsecured creditors, trustees, creditor committees, insurance companies, and contract counterparties (such as landlord, suppliers, vendors) in out-of-court workouts, liquidations, reorganizations, and Chapter 7, Chapter 11, and Chapter 15 proceedings. Taruna also advises clients acquiring assets of distressed entities, both in and out of bankruptcy. She has handled liquidation and reorganization of public and private corporations, and litigated adversary proceedings involving turnover, fraudulent transfers, preferences, directors’ and officers’ liablity, and mortgage avoidance actions.
Taruna has successfully prosecuted and defended bankruptcy appeals in federal district courts, the Bankruptcy Appellate Panel for the First Circuit, and in Circuit Courts of Appeals. She is frequently invited to speak on panels involving bankruptcy and creditor rights issues, including the recently enacted Small Business Reorganization Act (SBRA), and has served as a panelist for programs at the American Bankruptcy Institute, Connecticut Bar Association, Massachusetts Bar Association and Fairfield County Bar Association.
In her litigation practice, she represents individual and corporate clients in a wide range of disputes including breach of business contracts, violation of non-competition agreements, successor liablity, lender liability, and complex tort litigation throughout all stages of litigation, settlement and alternative dispute processes. Taruna has also successfully assisted clients who are victims of online defamation.
Taruna has a broad depth of experience in appellate litigation in state and federal courts, including bankruptcy courts. She has prosecuted and defended appeals in state courts throughout Massachusetts, Connecticut and New York and in the United States Circuit Courts of Appeal for the First, Second, and Third Circuits.

Financial Restructuring and Bankruptcy
- Counsel to Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 trustees in bankruptcy proceedings involving industries including: biotechnology, finance, real estate, manufacturing, waste management, and construction
- Successful chapter 11 liquidation and sale of intellectual property assets of a publicly traded biotechnology company;
- Counsel to creditors’ committee and liquidating custodian in bringing claims against directors and officers of Connecticut manufacturing company;
- Counsel to small business clients in restructuring, workouts, forbearance agreements, and chapter 11 filings under the Small Business Restructuring Act (SBRA)
- Counsel to landlords and commercial tenants in negotiating lease issues in distressed situations
- Counsel to numerous Connecticut municipalities in preserving liens for amounts owed by debtor taxpayers.

- Successfully defend against and enforcing non-competition clauses in employment agreements in health care and finance industries;

In 2017, Taruna was recognized by the Fairfield County Business Journal as one of Fairfield County’s Top “40 Under 40” Businesspeople. Before relocating to Connecticut, Taruna was chosen as a Diversity Hero by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly (2010) and she was selected by the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women as an Unsung Heroine (2009). Taruna was also selected as a “Rising Star” by Boston Magazine.
Taruna earned her Bachelor of Arts in International Relations, cum laude, from Boston University. She graduated from the Boston University School of Law, where she served as an editor with the American Journal of Law and Medicine.
